Key ideas for both sides
White
- 3.Nf3 is the engine's choice; after ...exf4, Nc3, Bc4 and h4 develop with energy.
- Use the d5 hole: a knight from c3 to d5 is strong because Black's c- and e-pawns have already moved past it.
- Aim the c4 bishop at f7 and look for a quick O-O with pressure on the f-file.
- d4 is a useful break once the pieces are out, opening lines against Black's king.
Black
- Take with ...exf4 and develop ...Nc6 and ...Nge7 to support f5 and g6.
- Use ...h6 or ...h5 to keep White's g5 or h5 ideas under control.
- The c5 pawn covers d4, so White's central break needs careful preparation first.
- Castle late; the e-file and f-file are open, and White's pieces aim at f7.
Plans and pawn structure
Black has pawns on c5 and e5, so the d5 square becomes a hole. White wants to occupy it with a knight and attack f7 with Bc4 and rooks on the f-file. Black aims to keep the f4 pawn, develop with ...Nc6 and ...Nge7, and use ...h6 or ...h5 to slow White's kingside expansion. White's development lead and the d5 square give a small edge for now.

How to play against it
As White, play Nf3 and Nc3, then put a knight on d5. Do not rush d4; build first with Bc4 and castling. Use the open f-file once the f4 pawn has been traded or won back, and keep pressure on f7.
