Key ideas for both sides

White

  • Play Nc3 and d4, as in the top engine line, opening the center while Black's kingside is blocked.
  • After ...Ng6, push d4 and recapture with the knight for active central pieces.
  • Castling first and then d4 is also strong; the bishop can go to c4 after ...a6.
